ABU DHABI SUBMISSION CHAMPIONSHIP

The ADCC (Abu Dhabi Combat Club) Submission Wrestling World Championship was created by Sheik Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al Nayan, son of Sheik Zayed, former president of the United Arab Emirates, on suggestion of Renzo and Royler Gracie. In addition, the championships were started after Sheik Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al Nayan was impressed with the grappling Matt Hume taught his fighters. This grappling tournament is widely considered to be the peak tournament in the submission grappling world. Significant prize money is awarded to winners, and athletes who have been successful at the highest levels of competition in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, Judo, Sambo and mixed martial arts regularly participate.
The tournament has been highly influential. Thousands of Submission grappling tournaments around the world use elements of the ADCC format and rule structure. To date, every ADCC champion has had experience studying the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
The Championship is a single-elimination tournament; only winner goes through to the next round. Gi, kimono & wrestling shoes are optional. The mat area is 9 x 9 meters, no cage or fence. If the fighters go out of this area the Referee will restart the fight in the center of the mat, in the same position they were when they left the mat. If the fighters were standing, they will start again facing each other.
